While the captive cultivation of Giant
Clams as a food source
was a laboratory success, once
re-populated into the 'fields'
many hungry Pacific islanders
unfortunately ate all the 'seeds'
before the 'crop' grew to the size of
reproductive adults.
Tridacna farms
have primarily turned their attention to
a
smaller species and a more lucrative
crop .. the Aquarium trade.
Such is the reflective development of modern man.
