2001: A Space Odyssey

An avid diver since the early 1950's, science fiction writer Arthur C Clarke developed post-polio syndrome in 1984 and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. That is, until Southwest Wheelchair Athletic Assoc president  Lenny Hulsebosch (paraplegic) sent a video of himself diving the reefs of Belize to Mr Clarke living in Sri Lanka. Lenny's gift so inspired Mr Clarke that he began diving again on his 75th birthday, capturing it on video and sending to Lenny for presentation at the 1993 Houston SEASPACE Underwater Symposium. Arthur C. Clarke died last week at age 90
