Field Classroom / Palmyra Atoll

Scientists from the American Museum of Natural History,
Columbia University and NOAA find Palmyra an excellent
location to conduct sea turtle research.

By studying their foraging, movement patterns, health
and conservation status, they can determine
sea turtle population dynamics and ecology.

While waiting for its medical assessment,
this Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas) was discussing
the scientific weighing, tagging and measurement procedures
via Skype with my son Sawyer back in Portland, OR.
